Chefchaouen


In the northern part of Morocco, 110 kilometers southwest of Tangier, in the heart of the Rif mountain range, lies the charming little town of Chefchaouen.

Also called the blue city, the color in which they were painted in the 30's 900, according to Jewish tradition, the outer walls of its buildings, Chefchaouen is a popular destination for shopping. Its typical products are woolen garments, woven blankets, furniture in cedar wood and goat cheese.

In the city you will also notice the influence of Andalusian architecture that stands in the tiled roofs, hanging balconies and in courtyards. This picturesque mountain town, founded by the Spanish in 1471 along the trade route linking Fez and Tetouan, has a beautiful and lively Median climbing with winding streets up the hill.

Valleys, gorges and picturesque peaks are found in abundance in the vicinity of this magical town so that trekking in these parts, especially in the period from April to June, is considered the best of Morocco.
